    In Search of a Captain

    YOU:

Capable, personable and experienced Captain with strong mechanical, communication and navigational skills.

    US:

Mature Canadian couple with 2 decades’ cruising experience in West Coast Canadian waters, in owner operated, 30-36 foot vessels and applicants for Portugal’s Golden Visa program with plans to be based in Europe, namely Cascais or vicinity in Portugal. Intent on learning basic navigation, maintenance and handling of larger, live aboard vessel.

Job Description:  Assist us in researching, surveying and selecting for our acquisition, a 75 to 85 foot, twin diesel engine power cruising vessel capable of longer excursions (not for day trips, not for charter). Once the vessel is acquired, the person selected for this role will oversee any required upgrades, repair or enhancements to the physical and mechanical components of the vessel, to ensure readiness and suitability for cruising. If the selected vessel is located outside of the planned range for launching, then either relocation service or oversight of “shipping” the vessel may be required.

The person selected will have excellent references and will provide Captain duties (planning, charting, navigating) and regular maintenance to the vessel as required while we cruise the European/ Mediterranean waters for the first years, and to plot and plan future expansion of cruising territory to be discovered.

Additionally, we will require “training and education” so that we are able to manage the vessel on our own, when the occasion calls, and as would be prudent for safety reasons. The position is full time live aboard with vacation and off times to be negotiated. Accommodations may be suitable to a mature congruous couple, subject to interview and approval, and determination/agreement on duties and responsibilities for the additional person. Children and/or pets will not be considered.

    The Vessel:

Our search to date included 5 to 10 year-old Nordhavn’s, Bandido’s, San Lorenzo’s as examples.  We will provide our budget and a detailed list of preferences for the “perfect vessel”, and are open to your knowledge and experience to determine best hull composition, engine type and size, electronics, navigational, operational, stabilizers, generators, water making and any/all other systems. We want a sturdy and reliable boat with classic lines, plenty of outdoor space, with the ability to cook outdoors and in a generous galley/kitchen, a home-like layout that is geared towards live- and work-aboard, not a party/charter boat.  We will, on occasion, have stay aboard guests, including children with their parents.

We will be available to travel to the chosen vessel location to meet you for inspection and sea trial as needed.

Qualified and interested candidates kindly submit resume to [email protected] along with current references and where you are currently situated.
